Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter’s Cookie Analogy

Transcription Note:  Tom pretty much presented this as a narrative rather than a script.  Originally I transcribed it as a script but after considering that Tom calls it a ‘story’ I changed it to a narrative.  It occurred to me that when you tell it like a ‘story’ you’re answering for your prospect; that way you don’t have to learn how to handle a bunch of objections.  Like Tom says, just tell the story to everyone and work with the ones sharp enough to volunteer.    Dave Hill

“Hey, I’ve got a good story, eh… takes about two or three minutes, might make ya a lot of money –might not, do you want to hear it?” (They say, “Well yeah.”)

 “Well we would all love to own a business, (they’re nodding their head –sure we would) but we don’t want to be a salesman – we don’t want to have a lot of risk – we don’t want to have overhead – we don’t know anybody, and it might be hard.” (And they say, “Yea that’s true.”)

 “But I have a business where all you really need is two customers….. for life, and most businesses require that you’re marketing out there and getting customers all the time and I says two customers for life I figured I could probably do that…. because I can even be one of those customers.  And I say, here’s how it works.  See this cookie?” (And they say, “Yea , yea, yea it’s a cookie.“)

“Well in our business you’re going have to learn to eat cookies.  You’re going to have a cookie in the middle of the morning and this cookie going to give you a bunch of protein and a bunch of fiber – it’s good for you and there’s a bunch of vitamins and minerals in it but it tastes so good and replaces that doughnut and it’s cheap.  So you’ll have that cookie in the middle of the morning…. and it will take the edge off your appetite for lunch.  In the afternoon instead of having some junk food – have another cookie, it’s delicious and you’ll love it and it will take the edge off your appetite for dinner so it helps manage your weight.”

“So in our business the training would be you would have to learn to chew and swallow.  And if you can do that you can have a business.  Now if we use two cookies a day that’s 60 cookies in a month and that’s two boxes of cookies – that’s 50 points – that’s half of what we need to be gold every four weeks.  So I’m thinking, I’m one customer I just need one more – that could be a wife, a friend, or…… and here’s the greatest part of our business, you can be both customers yourself – because you might want to try Limu+ or one of our other products.” (And they say, “Ah wow, that’s great.”)

 “So, here’s the business.  You have to learn to chew and swallow.  You need two customers for life, you can be one of them you could even be both if you want.  Now is that a simple business model?”  (And they say, “Well yeah.”)
